QUANTITATION OF DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT) DRUG TESTING PANEL IN ORAL FLUID

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has a drug and alcohol testing program in place to maintain the safety of various forms of commercial transportation. This drug testing has historically been performed using urine specimens, however, in May 2023 the DOT approved oral fluid as an alternative matrix.

A solid phase extraction (SPE) procedure and LC-MS/MS analytical method will be presented that can detect all mandatory DOT drug testing analytes at their necessary cut-off concentrations. This application utilizes UCT’s flagship SPE column, Clean Screen DAU®, which incorporates a copolymerized phase for the efficient extraction of basic, acidic, and neutral analytes.

This application was tested using Clean Screen DAU® in multiple formats for feasible implementation regardless of a laboratory’s needs and resources. The presented application can be used by DOT testing laboratories, HHS-certified laboratories, oral fluid testing laboratories, and workplace drug testing laboratories.

Attendees will learn:

  • Recent regulatory updates to DOT drug testing requirements
  • An efficient Solid Phase Extraction for oral fluid using the Clean Screen DAU® sorbent
  • Multiple product formats available to best implement this application
