The Safety Officer is responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing employee safety of our facilities located in Bristol, PA and Lewistown, PA, with significant travel required. This individual will also oversee and ensure company is in compliance and adheres to OSHA guidelines, conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures, employee safety training and assist with implementation of policies as it relates to safety and/or waste management.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssist with the enforcing hazardous waste management policies and proceduresConduct routine safety audits at all site locationsConduct employee safety training to maintain regulatory complianceOversee and review emergency response measures and programsWork with VP of Safety & Operations to establish and implement industrial hygiene policies and procedures, as applicableCoordinate and organize the activities of the emergency spill team and equipment spill cart and fireConduct safety equipment inspections and ensure prompt repairs accordinglyConduct all new employee training in addition to annual refresher training’sAssist with the Haz-Waste on the waste pad, as neededPerform annual fit testing of respiratorsPerform Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and evaluation of all processes in coordination with VP of Safety & OperationsComplete and maintain OSHA 300 Logs; assist as needed in preparing other reports and filesAssist VP of Safety & Operations prepare and/or participate with representing the company at seminars, community meetings, legal proceedings, OSHA conferences and other regulatory conferences, investigations or proceedingsInteract with all levels of employees and regulatory officials, safety and waste vendors in the absence of VP of Safety & Operations, as requiredCoordinate quarterly fire drills for all UCT locationsCoordinate and facilitate monthly Safety Committee meetings at all site locationsOther duties as assigned
Skills & AbilitiesComputer skills and MS Office skillsKnowledge of EPA, DOT and TSCA regulationsClear interpretation of NFPA CodeAbility and credentials to conduct 40 hours HAZWOPER trainingWilling to travel to all sites within PennsylvaniaExcellent verbal and written communication skillsMust be able to speak in front of large groupsStrong ability to work well in a team environmentCritical thinker and problem-solving skillsStrong time management skillsMust have familiarity with the chemical industry and related standards
Required Education and Experience:BS in Environmental Sciences, Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related Chemical Field required5-7 years of related experienceOSHA 40 HAZWOPER course Certification requiredDOT HAZMAT shipping Certification, preferredGeneral knowledge of REACH, preferredMust be well versed with ANSI and NIOH StandardsMust have a strong background with OSHA regulationsMust have thorough knowledge of Chemical Hygiene Standards & Industrial PracticesSome experience with chemical exposure
