UHPLC/ESI-MS/MS Determination of 187 Pesticides in Wine using UCT QuEChERS Products

In this recently published journal by Wang and Cheung in the world respected journal J.AOAC International (Volume 99, Number 2, March-April 2016, pp. 539-557(19) ) a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERs) method for extraction of  187 pesticides in both red and white wine samples is presented using ultra-HPLC for the analysis of a wide range of pesticides.  The pesticide residues were extracted from wine samples by a QuEChERS approach  employing  UCT’s  ENVIRO CLEAN salts/sorbents. Mylar pouches included anhydrous magnesium sulfate 6.0 g (MgSO4) and sodium acetate 1.5 g in addition to ENVIRO CLEAN  15 mL centrifuge tubes containing MgSO4 900 mg, C18 150 mg, and primary secondary amine (PSA) 300 mg for a highly productive and efficient QuEChERs clean-up.

Ultra HPLC/electrospray ionization-tandem MS quantification was achieved using matrix-matched standard calibration curves with isotopically labeled standards or a chemical analogue as internal standards with an analytical range from 5.0 to 500.0 μg/L. The method performance characteristics that included overall recovery, intermediate precision, and measurement uncertainty were evaluated according to a nested experimental design. Generally, 98.4% (in red wine) and 96.8% (in white wine) of the pesticides had recoveries between 71 and 120%; 98.9% (in red wine) and 99.5% (in white wine) of the pesticides had the intermediate precision ≤20%; and 99.5% (in red wine) and 98.4% (in white wine) of the pesticides had measurement uncertainty ≤50%. This methodology demonstrates why UCT is the premier manufacturer  of QuEChERs kits and accessories.
