DEA Notice on New Drugs

UCT is well known for its support of the forensic toxicology community across the globe. With this in mind, UCT notes that  USA’s Drug Enforcement Administration is placing the substance thiafentanil (4-(methoxycarbonyl)-4-(N-phenmethoxyacetamido)-1-[2-(thienyl)ethyl]piperidine), including its isomers, esters, ethers, salts and salts of isomers, esters and ethers into Schedule II of the Controlled Substances Act effective 26 August 2016. With the introduction of substituted fentanyls such as acetylfentanyl, butyrlfentanyl, and carfentanyl, UCT’s world renown SPE column Clean Screen® DAU is well suited to efficiently extract all of these analogs from biological matrices at the highest recoveries. The DEA has also issued a notice of intent to temporarily schedule the opioids mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, which are the main active constituents of the plant kratom, into schedule I pursuant to the temporary scheduling provisions of the Controlled Substances Act.
